Once my spiritual director placed before me a two gallon bucket of walnuts.  He said, "Eat them." 

I said, "I can't, they are still in the shell."

"Like the wisdom of the Bible.  Try to eat these nuts like chocolates and you will break your teeth, not get the meat, and get very discouraged.  Take one nut of wisdom at a time and open it in contemplation.  It may take a year of more just to open one nut.  But soon you will discover that although each nut appears different, they hold the same nourishment and message."  

Personally, I spent months on, "In the beginning there was the Word..."  After a long time I came to realize that there is only the Word and we are all IT!
